The defending champion Kansas City Chiefs will host the upstart Detroit Lions in the first game of the 2023 NFL season, then the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch on “Monday Night Football” in Week 11.
The Chiefs will face the Lions in Week 1 on Thursday night’s edition of “Sunday Night Football.” Sept. 7, NBC declared. Later Thursday, the NFL announced Leaders will lead the Eagles Nov. 20
Kansas City will host the Las Vegas Raiders for a Christmas Day game on Nickelodeon and CBS at 1 p.m. ET. This is the second regular season game on Nickelodeon after last year’s Christmas game between the Los Angeles Rams and Denver Broncos.
The Rams won that game over the Broncos, who lost Denver coach Nathaniel Hackett’s job.
If you watched that game on Nickelodeon a season ago, or any of the NFL postseason games simulcast on the channel, you know that Nickelodeon telecasts aren’t your traditional NFL viewing experience. There’s a lot of virtual slime and hijinks. Even Russell Wilson threw an interception last year and then got roasted by Patrick from Spongebob.
Five premiership games have already been announced ahead of the schedule release. Kansas City plays the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany on Nov. 5 and hosts the Cincinnati Bengals on New Year’s Eve. As the defending Super Bowl champions, the Chiefs will also host the season opener on Thursday night.
Shortly after the Christmas Day game was announced, the NFL and New York Jets Aaron Rodgers’ The first game with the Jets will come on “Monday Night Football.” The Jets will play at home against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.
The NFL is releasing specific games ahead of Thursday night’s scheduled full schedule release. The Nickelodeon game announcement came a day after the Eagles’ Week 13 game against the 49ers and five international games were announced.
