Elon Musk Says Twitter Logo Change Says Goodbye To ‘All Birds’

Elon Musk tweeted on Sunday that he wanted to change Twitter’s logo: “Soon we’ll be saying goodbye to the Twitter brand and gradually to all the birds.”

In a post on the site at 12:06 a.m. ET, the billionaire owner of the social media site added: “If the good enough X logo is released tonight, we’ll bring (it) live worldwide tomorrow.”

Musk posted an image of a glittering “X” and later answered “yes” in a Twitter Space audio chat when asked if the Twitter logo would change, adding that “it should have been done a long time ago.”

During Musk’s tumultuous tenure, since he bought Twitter in October, the company has changed its business name to X Corp, reflecting the billionaire’s vision to create a “super app” like China’s WeChat.

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Twitter’s website says its logo, depicting a blue bird, is “our most recognizable asset”.

“That’s why we protect it,” it added.

The bird was temporarily replaced by Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog in April, helping to boost the commemorative coin’s market value.

When Musk announced earlier this month that Twitter would limit how many tweets different accounts could read per day, the company came under widespread criticism from users and marketing experts.

Daily limits helped the growth of Meta’s own competition service Threads, which surpassed 100 million entries within five days of its launch.

Twitter’s most recent problem is that the company filed a lawsuit Tuesday claiming it owes former employees at least $500 million in severance pay.

Since Musk took over, the company has laid off more than half of its workforce to cut costs.
