PARIS – Divers Sarah Bacon and Cassidy Cook have won America’s first medal of the Paris Olympics.

Bacon and Cook won the silver medal in the 3-meter synchronized springboard event at the Aquatics Center in Saint-Denis, north of Paris. It’s the first time the US has won a medal since 2012.

Bacon and Cook followed with Chinese rivals Zhang Yani and Chen Yiwen taking gold, America’s Scarlett Miu Jensen and Great Britain’s Yasmin Harper taking bronze.

It was the first medal for both Bacon and Cook. Bacon makes his Olympic debut. Meanwhile, Cook competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where she finished 13th in the women’s 3-meter springboard.

It was the first medal in what is expected to be another record streak of medals for the US team at the Summer Olympics.
